Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you based? Do you travel?
We’re based in Newcastle, NSW, but are happy to travel anywhere in Australia. Travel outside of Newcastle may incur additional fees, which are not included in package pricing.
What if the person being filmed isn’t comfortable on camera?
That’s completely okay and very normal! Our filming style is relaxed, conversational, and pressure-free. There are no scripts or rehearsed answers. We guide the conversation gently and create a safe, friendly environment. Our goal is for you to forget that the camera is even there.
Can multiple family members be interviewed?
Yes, we can interview multiple family members in a single session if you’d like to create a group story. Additional filming time may be required depending on the number of participants.
What is the turnaround time for delivery?
You’ll typically receive your first edit within 60 days of filming (often much sooner), depending on your package and the time of year. When we book your shoot, we’ll provide a personalised timeline so you know what to expect. If you need a faster turnaround for a special occasion or time-sensitive reason, just let us know, we’re happy to accommodate where possible.
Can we update or add to the video later?
Definitely. We offer “chapter update” sessions so you can continue telling your story over time, whether it’s a major life event or simply more reflections you’d like to capture.

Your Life Story Video was founded by Kye Smith, a videographer with 15 years experience in the industry and the owner of Kye Smith Creative an established video production company known for storytelling across education, corporate, and community sectors. With a background in crafting interview-led films and a passion for preserving personal histories, Kye launched Your Life Story Video to help individuals and families create meaningful legacy films with care and authenticity.
